Abstract

This research analyzes consumer expectations for developing product quality of Rice Bran Cake. Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method is employed to ensure the product that entering the production phase will actually able to satisfy the consumer expectations. There are four phases in QFD method, namely; house of quality, parts deployment, process deployment, and production planning. The results coming from applying the four phases of QFD are: consumers require the quality development of Rice Bran Cake and considered price improvement, the addition of flavor, color, aroma, texture, shape, packaging, legality, durability, and net weight. Company’s response to meet the consumer demand towards Rice Bran Cake that produced in the first phase is the addition of flavors, qualified ingredients, making innovative shapes, price adjustment, the addition of weight and size, packaging design, and no chemical preservatives. In the second phase of part deployment, the priorities which should be improved are natural ingredients usage, procurement of qualified ingredients, the addition of halal label, interested flavor, adjustments with other attributes, and the larger cake pan. The quality development designs of Rice Bran Cake that is produced in accordance with the order of weight values of the highest process planning are supply of raw materials, supply of additional materials, the addition of the appropriate flavors, the addition of food coloring, and packaging. Furthermore, the matrix production planning obtained according to the results of importance weight are making various flavors, the supply of qualified ingredients, legality standardization, designing the forms of packaging, hygiene of tools and materials, and accuracy of production equipment.

Abstract

Horticulture is one of important subsectors for agricultural development in East Java. Increasing demand of high quality seed of horticulture results an increasing demand of land for seed breeding. The objectives of this research were to analyze potential of various potential horticultural crops, to calculate economic feasibility, to analyze business marketing chain and to identify potential horticultural seeds breeding for agribusiness development. Data analysis method that used in this research was Location Quotient (LQ), Supply Chain, Business Feasibility (Feasibility Study), and AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process). The research was conducted in 5 (five) Regencies. The research conducted by interview to the breeder, user farmers, and seeds seller. The research results showed that potential horticultural seeds in five Regencies based on LQ and local government program are rose apple (Syzygium aqueum), longan fruit, durian, ginger, bird’s eye chili or thai chili, orange, potato, and mango. All potential commodities above were feasible to be developed based on R/C ratio, B/C ratio, NPV, and IRR calculation. Marketing chain for those potential commodities vary started from breeder farmer, middleman, farmer group, Regional Owned Enterprises to the user farmer or individual farmer. The prospect of those potential horticultural seeds breeding based on AHP analysis results some attributes to be considered, they are seeds quality and growth capability.

Abstract

SRI (System of Rice Intensification) planting system is technological innovation which emphasizes on soil function as growth media and source of plant nutrition. Introduction process to the SRI technology in Randuagung Village, Lumajang Regency has implemented for 5 years. However, farmers are still unwilling to implement the system. Therefore, it is necessary to know obstacles that caused slow process of that system adoption. This research was qualitative descriptive and conducted on September to October 2016 to the “Tani Khisma Agung” Farmer Group. Sample determination method that used in this research was snowball sampling, thus it was obtained 2 key informants and 18 informants. Data analysis used interactive model data analysis by Miles , Huberman, and Saldana (2014), which is data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification. The research result showed that there were obstacles that caused slow process of SRI planting system innovation adoption as follow: Labour system, water availability, less real proofs, program continuity, late assistance, plant pest organism, and cost. Besides that, there were other obstacles such as planning process with top-down system and group counseling method that less appropriate to the actual condition.

Abstract

This study focuses on analyzing technical, cost and allocative efficiency and analyzing the influence of factors to the efficiency farming. The crops chosen for the analysis are rice, corn and soybean. The locations of this study are Jember, Banyuwangi, and Tuban Regency, East Java, Indonesia. The efficiency is measured using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The results showed that the average technical efficiency for rice, corn, and soybean are 0.68, 0.73, and 0.81, respectively. Additionally, cost efficiency are 0.10, 0.12, and 4.55 for rice farming, corn farming, and soybean farming, respectively. This described that improving the efficiency of food farming in Indonesia is imperative. Accordingly, the most dominant factors affecting the technical (TE) and cost (CE) efficiency in rice, corn and soybean farming are land area and extension frequency. Therefore, the policies regarding land management and extension program should become the main attention of government. The program should be performed to address the local problem of production and also marketing of agriculture products in such a way that result in increasing profit and welfare of farmers.

Abstract

The purposes of this research are to analyze production and price risk level of red chili farming especially on dry land in off-season. Data are collected through interview to 47 farmers who grow red chili on dry land during the rainy season. The research results show that price risk levelis higher than production risk level.Coefficient of variation (CV) of Chili price is 0.32 and the CV of chili production is 0.05. The risk of price is higher than production risklevel due to the fact that price is more volatile and more difficult to control by farmers. Additionally, production riskis still manageable and can be controlled by farmers through the implementation of off-season cultivation technology combining by the experience of farmers in the production. However, the total production are still lower than the potential productivity due to the weather constraint. In order to reduce the level of production and price risk, farmers can make diversivication crops to secure income. In addition, farmers must actively observe price and make decision of production accordingly.
